| Im in sydney australia and have been doing the thunder tiger monster truck (up to part 8) and so far have found it to be quite enjoyable as i mainly tinker with rc helicopters (raptors and x cell) so have found this a good way to have a tinker with an rc car.
Obviously building from the weeklly mags is the expensive way of doing things but feel is a great way for complete rc novices to get involved. One of the pittfalls of a novice building a model is the tendancy is to slap parts together before thinking resluting in damaged or parts put together incorectly but when they only get a few parts each week they have no reason to get slap happy with parts to move onto the next stage due to having to wait for the next issue.
Secondly nothing can be more daunting for a novice to open a box and be confrounted with a box full of parts some that look the same but have minor differences that make part identification difficult this is also eliminated with the weekly mag due to only a few parts beings sent each week.
Also for a novice it can be daunting enough getting into a new hobby and the last thing they want to be doing is scouring hobbyshops ebay and the likes to find parts to build a model.
So to sum it up i would reccomend the mag way to a novice anyday as feel the extra cost is worth while to illiminate the above problems rather than paying less and ending up with a damaged or incomplete model due to confusion frustration and the likes
On a final note building week by week shows that the rc hobby in general is one that can take patience to complete setup and diagnose problems and helps build this level of patience not the " i dont want to wait i want it built and use it now attitude"
