I've completed the aeroplane from the kit apart from a few little touch up's where the brush slipped

Very straight forward kit to do, apart from a couple of pieces to cut out, and then fill in again because I got carried away
there was nothing too complicated.
But one problem I did have was when painting it, I washed all the pieces in soap water before painting but on some parts of it when I applied the paint it would disperse as if there was oil of something on it, anyone got any better ideas what to use to clean before painting?
