I think this whole claims culture is one of the saddest indications of the state of our selfish society today.
I totally agree with Barry it is now so rife that it is stiffling developement and the whole H&S philosophy has become a means of supporting claims rather than a sensible way of preventing people from getting hurt.
So many things I do at work is controlled by some sort of legislation, rule or guideline which is all designed to protect the company from a liability point of view. I daren't imagine where it is all going but at the moment no-one is doing anything to stop it so it can only continue to get worse before it gets any better. The money and resources that is wasted on protecting companies from claims could be so much better used to progress our society and make life better for everyone.
I think this all goes right to the root of the way we think nowadays though. We have been given more and more money in our pocket to the point where I think we actually have far too much disposable income yet we have crap health, education and police services etc. This is all because people want as much money in their pocket and no government seems to have the courage to do what is best for the country as a whole and would rather pander to generating votes.
I don't know about a soap box, I just feel like moving to the Outer Hebrides sometimes. |
