New Hebrides I think you mean....Outer Hebrides are still part of the UK and the previous applies there too, usualy caused by "white settlers" or "in-comers", "flatlanders", "mainlanders" etc. At least the "no-whistleing-on-the-Sabbath philosophy" people there are still fighting the rush. Property values is another modern curse and example of the modern "screw thy neighbour" trend. My most hated expression "I dont care". Heard everywhere, that is one that tends to come back and bite them in the arse .
