| Basically pastel and oil wash seem to be the most popular, the latter is a system whereby a thin wash of oil paint is rubbed into the panel lines etc someone discovered the idea after the older method of dipping your brush into the thinners bottle which has the same effect.
But a word of warning here about weathering, check out your particular subject first and note where the exhaust stains, grime etc collect, not every subject looks as if they have been stored in the desert for years ! in other words be wary of over doing the weathering, done in a subtle fashion they look realistic, done badly it can ruin your model, practise first on a paint hack, this is an old model that gets used to try out paint finishes.
Thats it,check out the tutorials here (check the archives down at the bottom of the forum page ) study the ideas thus presented, and experiment, hands on experience is the very best way to learn about model building, above all enjoy yourself.
