I have to say the spray cans are very handy for covering a bigger surface.

I did the U-boat hull with Tamiya acrylics in spray tins and the finish was superb, the mess a bare minimum and the cost verging on the ridiculous!!

However when you want to add some detail such as the tank camoflague then you have to get into an air brush.

Alternatives are masking the area and then using the spray cans but if you need a shaded edge you have to get into holding the masks away from the surface which is a bit of a faff.
