MAy I suggest you take a walk over to your nearest games workshop. While the paint materials may not be to your liking you will see some exquisite detail which may provide inspiration.
I used to use a 5zero with a magnifier when my eyes were good. I COULD paint the pupil on a figure an inch high when I was a lad. I couldnt paint a boil on an action man these days!
