well as long time painter of GW's products ( along with almost every other manudacturer of kits from boats to planes , men to moon rockets lol ) its doesn't matter what colours you choose to paint the mini you chose. Its only the 9 defined chaos "legions" that have a specific colour scheme along with about 30 loyalist space marines. I run a wargaming club up the Fraserburgh which is mainly GW model based and we have a pro-painter that makes his living painting commissions ( mostly English Civil War , American Civil War , Napolionics , GW makes up about 40% of his work ) and the amount of detail that can be put on one of these models makes my eyes water.

Once upon a time I would have been able to put pupils , Gem stone highlights , energy weapon "glow" effects onto the 28mm models but with me having a bad back ( 2 squashed disks from a workplace accident ) I can only sit for short periods so my paintings gone for the "keep it clean , neat and as simple as possible" route lol.

Don't worry what any "proper" gamers says I encourage the teenagers at the club to design their own paint schemes and to experiment at blending and shading. If you make a horlics of it then simply put any plastic models into a sealed jar ( jam jars are perfect ) with enough DOT3 brake fuild to cover the model , agitate twice a day for 3 days , wear gloves take an old tooth brush and gently brush off all the paint under warm water. Soak in another jar filled with hot water and washing up liquid ( lots of washing up liquid ) to neutralise any remaining brake fluid , leave for 24hrs. Brush under warm water , allow to dry , undercoat and start again. the metal models can be done exactly the same but you can use DOT4 brake fuild ( warning DOT4 WILL melt plastic models DOT3 won't ) or if your in a hurry just use Nitromors outside in a glass jar ( use a face mask , eye protection , thick gloves and an old tooth brush all of which once you've scrubbed the paint off and rinsed it in warm soapy water you discard at the local council tip ) which will do the job on the metal mini's in about 5 minutes !!! Do NOT try this with plastic as all you'll be left with is a gooey mess !!!.
