Wood fillers usually contain wood dust and a very volatile base that might not do the job you are after. The finish would be very rough and unrealistic and it doesn't work as well as other types of fillers.

Polyfilla is a household filler for use on plaster etc and can be purchased in a fine consistency. I would ask the question at your model shop and see what they can do, they must supply some sort of fillers for plastic models.

I have used Das modelling clay in the past and squadron putty, although that may be a bit thin for your purposes.
