| OK Iain, get your instructor to take off and land for you initially, when you do eventually get confident in handling her practise big wide circuits lining up with something on the horizon as you do the various turns to land ie into wind, climb out, turn across wind, then downwind, then finally onto base leg keep practising these until you get the model lined up for a landing and it become second nature to you,the first time you land dont worry if you get the strip first time, accuracy will come later.
If you have a good model flight simulator then start using it now,it will help you when you handle the real thing but there is no substitute for the real model flying.
Dont fly flat out in the beginning, throttle back until the model feels comfortable to you, more people get into problems this way, golden rule is keep upwind and make your first nervous turns high up,you will soon begin to get a feel for the way the model flys.
Wish that I was there to assist you but get someone who is prepared to devote some time with you.
Best of luck.
