I built a nice layout in an attic room a few years ago and got a tremendous amount of enjoyment from it. I even soldered jump wires across all the joints and fed the rack at two points to ensure continuity and reliability.

It has all gone now but I kept my two favourite cars which still sit on a shelf in the study. The thing is with a fixed track is that you have to design it to be demanding and intersting enough to remain challenging for years to come. If it is too easy and you get very good at it you will end up getting bored with the layout so put plenty of thought into the design.

Banked hairpin curves up a hillside are usefull, too slow and you fall off and too fast and you launch yourself through the door!!

You will have to tell us more about the digital system. The last time I looked they used electric motors controlled by a resistance and a wiper in the controller handle. I take it this has all advanced now?
