Norton does sabotage the recycle bin as it creates its own to hasten the undelete function. Before XP it was simple to restore anything that was deleted but with XP Microsoft bought over a couple of the companies who made such tools and changed the way they erase files. In order to maintain this functionality Norton reverted back to a previous deletion methodology.

There is a setting in the Classic View of the Control Panel which lets you see the recycle bin again but it confusses Norton. There really ought to be a way to switch the Norton one off.

Glad you managed to retrieve it anyway before a lorry arrived and took it away for ever.
