As for your finger print it very much depends on what caused it. If it is an impression left in soft paint then I'm afraid you have to try rubbing it with a rubbing compound such as 'T' Cut or or wet and dry or you may have to rub it back to the plastic and repaint.
If it is a deposit left on the surface by something on your finger such as enamel paint then you could be in with a chance or removing it. The problem will be if the deposit is of the same material as the body paint. Obviously whatever thinners will remove the print will also remove the body paint. I would be tempted with this to very gently rub the print away with the finest wet and dry you can get your hands on.
Halfords I think go up to about a 600 grit but I would be wanting at least a 1000 grit, preferably better. You can usually pick this up from car paint suppliers on the net. I actually have a packet of 2000 grit for very fine polishing and lapping.
When you have removed the print from the surface you will be left with a matt finish from the wet and dry but a top coat of clear gloss varnish or even Johnsons Kleer floor polish should have the body back to a nice even shine.
