One thing to bear in mind too is the fact that the pilots have to wait until the arrestor wire catches as otherwise they'll have to throttle up (pray) and try to take off again.
The closing speed to the carrier is frightening, thats a big chunk of steel and it still looks like you're moving very fast towards it!
What's the aircraft by the way - is it a Corsair II?
