| When I paint tracks on AFV's I use a basecoat of matt black followed by a drybrush with gunmetal and then use some weathering pigments - MIG rust pigment and then a final highlight with some silver to pick out the details on the raised surfaces prone to wear. The weathering powder really makes for an authentic rust effect.
Vallejo Model Air Acrylics are good and their gunmetal has a really nice almost metal flake effect which dulls down nicely after the weathering powers are applied but still looks very metallic.
