Yes I do remember that advertisement,as balsa grows at a very rapid rate unlike conventional woods that is more than possible,the kiln drying process is what slows down production,check back in the archives as a special piece was done on the production of balsawood which I wrote a while back.
If you ever get a ticking noise from your wood stocks do not be alarmed,it is a bug that can get trapped in the wood,these hardy little beasts can it seems withstand the kiln drying process ! the old 'Aeromodeller' magazine in the MC Guillycuddy articles made a big thing about the ticking balsawood syndrome,and that was as far back as 1941 ! whether the ticking was more pronounced back then due to a different process is not known ? Solarbo were pioneers of balsa production,along with their very own plantations and sustainable forests.
