Well, based on my own experience, if no caution signs or yellow spots are listed in the device manager AND a nic card is present and detected then maybe XP "wireless config manager" needs to be started. Simply right click on "my computer", choose "manage" from the menu and find "services" from the left window pane. Once chosen, choose and highlight 'Services" from the right pane now and scroll down to the W section and choose the service "windows zero configuration" Try to start the service OR restart the service. This tells windows if it or the NIC card should manage the wireless network service. Linksys and netgear in paticular will try to over ride the windows service and cut out any other network it sees other than your own router. There really is no "generic" NIC card driver that would normally reside in the i386 folder where absoultly generic device drivers (usb keyboard, mice ect reside. Also, in addition to the make and model of the network card, check if any version is listed. Hope this helps you out a little, Jeff |
