The above link is quite interesting because it gives details about how the vehicle was painted, for example some of the hatches would be closed when the vehicle was painted the panzer grey colour so the edges around those would still just have the red oxide primer, the engine compartments were left in primer and some of the sheet metal stowage bins were fabricated elsewhere and as supplied would have been painted black. After they were attached to the vehicle only the outsides would be sprayed the panzer grey, still remaining black inside.

It's little details like that that help give a model an additional level of realism and the kind of thing that only becomes an issue when you start to model the thing.
