I hate submaines today!

Today has been mostly spent having to re-position the internal workings of the boat. I was about ready to finish the power leads and that was it, everything done inside. Unfortunately the periscope mechanism was not clearing the battery.

So.... I have had to strip everything out of it, move the main board to a different position, move the battery further forward and change the fixings for the piston tanks. On the piston tanks I took those awfull jubilee clips off and used a binding strap of plastic. Looks a little more discrete. But one other major problem I had was the battery. It was to tall for the lid to fit on !! ST!!! As before I placed it on its side.

So, after a few things were thrown about the workshop I proceeded to think about the solution. Now I didnt want to have to remove the base plates, there a real pain in the arse to get out, as I have said before, I should have made the opening in the water-proof container larger ! But looking back is fine

I also took the oportunity to put some more capacitors onto the motors. I was finding that I was getting quite a bit of interferance off the power supply. So I have had to upgrade the surpressors. Very impressed with the motors supplied. They are very free running and stay pretty cool. Will find out for sure when the boat hits the water though.

One thing that is bothering me is the plastic tubing Engel have sent to fit onto the tanks. Its pretty hard plastic, and there isnt much give in it. I find it slides off the nipples on the piston tanks rather too easily for my liking. I may change it for some standard silicone tubing, and just replace it every couple of months. I would hate something as trivial as plastic tubing to sink the thing !

So I have cut out a hole for the battery to fit into in the base plate at the forward end. Luckily the ballast isnt there so the battery fits in nicely into the keel and is kept in place with the plate. It has actually worked out a lot better than the previous method.

So hopefully tommorrow I can finish with all the electrics and start on the detailing of the model ! Might even find some time to buy some paint
