[SF/Mecha/Anime] VF-1J Variable Fighter paintjob for critique:

Hey all.

There's no scifi/mecha/anime forum so this seems to be the place. I'd like some comments or tips regarding washing and preshading. This was my first attempt and I had the following difficulties:

Keeping mixed paint- I preshaded with tamiya sky grey and then coated with flat white on this - but other than mixing up jars are there any top tricks for matching preshading on parts done over a few days? I'm using draw-feed airbrushes so mixing in the cup isn't so easy without the damn thing falling off...

Klear coat to seal decals (prior to wash) - how thick a coat should this be, ideally? I put a fairly light coat on and got some rubbing damage on the decals from handling over time...
