Hi Chris, I stay with the old ways of preping wood both ply and solid timber, shelac based sanding sealer and good quality aluminium oxide abrasive sanding down the grain. I found it gives a good base for spray or brush primer that can be wet and dry sanded.
After sanding / priming give plenty of time to cure I leave boat bits for up to a week, dont leave in a hot atmosphere a warm well ventilated area is best.
Check the base of any paint you use ie; acrilic, cellulose, etc be sure to use the same all through the job as mixing can cause orrible reactions, the more time spent on base preperation the better the end job. regards Aquarama
