It was just geometry, the vertical separation between the propshaft and motor shaft would mean additional drive loss due to the angle the double joint would have to make. I had to use a longer spacer between the 2 U joints than the one supplied and it just happens that a U joint third was just the right length No chance of them falling out, fits pretty tight.
