Desert Land Rover & Chinook diorama

Hello ladies and gents,

I'm new to the site here, and wanted to ask your advice on a diarama. I'm an Infantry Sgt with the Royal Irish Regiment. I have an office for admin purposes, and wish to use this as a display on my desk.

My plan is to use a 1/35th Land Rover WMIK, like this, plus some 1/35th figures.

I also want to use the Trumpeter 1/35th Chinook (it's the american version, but I'll leave off the US decals so it resembles a BritFor HC2 Chinook), like this with the tail open, as if the landie has just driven out of the back of it.

The diorama I wish to use will be a relatively flat and plain desert theme

What approx size would I need the base to be? Where do I start ref the diorama base? What do I use for it? What materials would I need to get?

Any advice would be very welcome.

Regards,

Gaz
