Ray in a word-NO ! you would be breaking the radio regulatory rules,once more it is not necessary to earth a transmitter in this way.
If you cannot see the model then it becomes dangerous to operate it,the range should be adequate for normal operation.
Those models used for remote camera work had special permission and were designed for that particular type of work.
