I know this is 3 weeks old, but I've only just today discovered these forums, and see no other replies.

The fuel line runs from the drop tank to the main fuel tank. Pressure forces the fuel from the drop tank into the main (constantly topping it off) and there's a little glass window in the pipe. When the fuel stops flowing through the glass portion the pilot knows he can jettison the tank. I would assume this would only be in place on 109E-7s, as they were the first E capable of carrying the drop tank. I know it was standard on F and all later models, but never really stopped to look for it in the E-series.
