Weary Airspeed Horsa glider gets ready for the axe.

This Airspeed Horsa glider amongst hundreds more of its type is ready for the axe,the fuselage will part company with the wings and sold off to local farmers who use them for useful animal pens and storage, the rest will just be burnt on site, its job is over having carried hundreds of troops and salvaged time and again, the paintwork is weathered having stood outside for months but its days are over.

Footnote: Many years ago a workmate told me about some remains of an aircraft on his dads farm,he invited me over to see them and when I got there sure enough were portions of Horsa fuselages used as chicken runs ! I gathered together three bags of metal fittings and other parts such as air bottles etc, years later these same parts went into making up a Horsa for preservation, that Horsa glider now rests in a museum dedicated to the Glider pilots regiment.
