well i finally did it- well sort of !- i have just taken delivery of a 1/16th scale radio controlled T34 tank ( made by trumpeter)

its one of the almost ready to run items as seen on ebay !- the box arrived and i quickly opened it..... its neatly laid out with what looks like a cheap 2 channel 27 mhz transmitter, but it has 3 push switches on the top, one for turret rotation, one for barrel raise and lower and one for fire !- but on closer inspection the TX unit is perfectly adequate, with interchangable xtals too.......supposedly 5 channels on the 27 mhz band.....now to the tank,
the tank body itself is actually an very good quality injection moulding, its arrived with 3 sprues of detail parts to add - but overall the good detailing and the paint job is pretty damm good also, the tracks and wheels are all fully installed, but they are all accessible by removing screws and several moulded sections, the tracks are rubber and all the drive wheels are independently sprung............ so once i had installed the 8 x AA cells in the TX and 8 x AA cells into the tank i switched on to see if my new purchase was any good..... bearing in mind this is marketed as a big kids Toy, it was priced as a toy and i expected something to resemble a toy - and i suppose i expected it to operate as a toy..... this tank (which was a silly impulsive buy) was going to be an experience i thought i may regret.....i i was expecting it to become a costly door stop or paperweight.......

but hell no the tank fitted with 8 x AA cells (Nicad) set off down the hall way.... the damm thing is a fine mover, and would be even more rapid if on alkaline 1.5volt AA cells ...... the turn of speed is realistic, and about right.....the independant control of each track takes a little bit of time to get used to, but the thing is great, it manouvers like the real thing and happily tackles obsticles in its way !
but spurred on with progress down the hall and into the kitchen we set about a trip down the garden, over grass, tree branches and onto the gravel driveway, here the independant track control was great leaving authentic mini track marks in the gravel !- climbing over obsticles and through the flower bed this little monster was not gonna be beaten by a plant or a shrub ! - its an awesome little tank, and i cant wait to go head to head with my mates Tamiya sherman..... the turret rotates, the barrel raises and lowers, and the barrel recoils when a shot is fired......

this impulsive purchase had me smiling away for about 45 mins until batteries needed a charge.....

and the best bit of it all...... this tank unlike the tamiya items was priced like a toy....... £40 quid and that included express courier costs from Germany.....
its a wicked 'big kids toy', well actually more of a great starting point for some superdetailing, some additional weathering and some all out fun rather than a 'toy'- i am totally impressed with the quality of this thing and for the money its impressive...

so this weekend i will try and find some time to start to put together the sprues of additional detailing parts, eg exhausts, oil tanks, guards, and towing cables and shackles and other sundry items..... if nothing else i will take a photo of this little gem in the raw, then as i add and do work on this tank you can get regular photo updates.....

if you fancy a tank without the tamiya price tag for a bit of fun then consider the henlong or trumpeter units at 1?16th scale- for the money they are fine little models ........
