I like the idea of a diesel/electric rather than nuke, it gives you a reason for it to be on the surface after all, but I'd heard the Akula was a better bet than the Bluefish. Maybe that's to do with that quality concern?
Yes there are some amazing weathering jobs done. I saw some verry nice streaky rust on an X-craft and a u-boat a while back. I'd be fairly happy just getting one to work never mind look that good.
I've followed a few links off the SubComittee site and end up looking at things built from GRP and ingenuity or how to make working torpedos and missiles. Either way it's not getting me onto (under?) the water any time in the near future just fueling daydreams. I reckon as a starting point I need to try a kit then get clever.
