| Low tech scale modelling.
Not every model is a piece of high tech wizardry,if you are a model builder then you can make models from just about anything and get great fun out of it as well,to illustrate this point here is a small flying scale glider made from nothing more than ordinary writing paper and a few scraps of balsa, the type is a pioneering Antoinette monoplane, once balanced and trimmed out she flew across the room.

| Low tech scale modelling-Small balsa flyers.
Balsawood strip is ideal for building simple experimental flying models like this Wright Flyer biplane, you can use small models like this to get things right before a larger model is tackled, and once again they are real fun to build and fly, very strong as well because they bounce being so lightly built.
She is twin rubber powered with opposite handed props to eliminate torque.

| That brings back memories I remember my brother building a plane out of Balsawood strips, from what I can remember it didn't last long after it's maiden flight |

Have you tried using Firefox or Netscape to view it? I'm just curious to see if it's a DNS problem or a problem with IE |

| Wright Flyer covered.
Try this one, here she is covered with silkspan, the adhesive was an experiment gelatine thinned right down,it seems to work well and is still intact.
The foreplanes need careful set up but once trimmed she wafts across the room with the tiny propellers,it is snowing here but indoors in between other jobs I am having the occasional flight with her !

| How strange, I`ve got all the pics now. I didnt do anything. ... Back to aircraft, nice models Barry. What a great selection of similar types in Sam`s catalogue. Might get stuck into some as I have a stock of small size balsa strip-wood picked up when the Oban model shop closed years ago. Need any old style tissue paste or cellulose coloured dope (Humbrol)? Alas the Britfix balsa cement has all been used up ! |

Alas the Britfix balsa cement has all been used up ! | ***Nitrated Humbrol dope ! thats a museum piece Duncan,I dont think that Humbrol have done a production run in years, probably very old stock but still perfectly useable,I picked up a load of Butyrate dope the American equivalent at a car boot sale, that too was some shop that had closed down and clearing out,ah real balsa cement as well ! without the mustard they added to stop the glue sniffers, there was an outburst when Humbrol added and changed the contents, people complained that it would not stick properly but it was all in the mind.
If ever you need a really super balsa cement then treat yourself to a large tube of Ambroid from SAM's it will last you for ages,it dries yellow without any shrinkage so no warps, yes for the small scamle builder good old fashioned balsa cement is still the very best.
By the way the main reason that coloured dope went out of fashion was due to Humbrol pushing enamels as being much lighter, dope is heavy,if you use them for flying models just drop the normal enamel thinners and substitute cellulose thinners,it not only dries better but will pass through an airbrush much better.
