At the Telford model show last year they had a guy flying a full size Sukhoi.
This thing had a 450 hp motor and was stressed to +/- 23G! Now if you think (like I did) that 3D flying is the sole preserve of models, then you're wrong! This chap pulled from straight and level into a "wall" then proceeded to prop hang. After a bit of this he gave her the gun and began snap rolling vertically going UP! A few harrier rolls and a load of usual aerobatics had the crowd stunned. I stood there with my gob hanging open and the hackles on my neck standing up! It was just so completely unexpected. When it was announced I thought we'd get the usual rolls and loops at 2000 feet sort of thing. Incredible!

Talked to the pilot afterwards. Top bloke! Even signed my grandson's program. He's only one of six certified to perform these manoeuvres. Wish I could remember his name. Hadn't been flying that long either but held just about every license there is.. Makes ya sick, it does!!

The remarkable Sukhoi SU-29.

Russian engineers have produced some of th worlds finest and certainly strongest highly stressed aerobatic aircraft in the world, the ironic thing is that they have been at it longer than most people imagine, only in recent years have the Yaks and Sukhoi's started to appear in the Western world, with them have appeared some equally outstanding pilots just pushing the boundaries with this type of machine.
How many saw the piece on television when a Sukhoi SU-29 and its brave skillful pilot flew inverted under a bridge with people flanking either side as they watched the experience of a lifetime.
It was a small curved iron bridge somewhere, imagine the consequences if something had gone terribly wrong ? anyone also remember seeing that flying shot in the film 'Blue Max' where a Fokker Dr.1 Triplane flew under a bridge whilst making this classic film in Ireland.
The Mad Major ( Christopher Draper ) had a lot to answer for when he flew an Auster under the bridges along the Thames in London during the 1950's
What would we do without these real characters who cheated death as if it is all in a days work
