Usually, the modeller "weathers" it afterwards by using Pastel chalk dust and a paint brush, much like you would with a plastic kit. Most cardmodels dont come with the weathering already on it although some do.
And just like with a plastic model, once you weather it, you seal it with an overcoat of something....be it laquer, dullcote, glosscote or hairspray lol.
The canopy on that model is made from the "overhead" transparent film used on "overhead projectors". So, you cant really call that a "pure" cardmodel either lol. But it is accepted as such because it was designed that way.
