***Plinky,I think that you have read this wrong ? those Carvair's are not radio controlled aircraft but mahagony wood solid replicas made for commercial purposes, the average wingspan appears to be about 13 inches, read the page again.
Nice models but I do not think they are what you are looking for ?

Never seen so many different models of the Carvair ! for those wondering what exactly this aircraft type is let me explain, the Carvair was the brainchild of non other than Mr Freddie Laker, his company was called Aviation Traders Ltd and was based at Southend where he had a large aircraft conversion facility, his idea which worked was to take one standard Douglas DC-4 airliner, chop off the nose and add one bulbeous cargo doored assembly that was literally grafted onto the nose, here the aircraft vecame a car carrier and could be used for transporting both the passenger and his vehicle on his holiday to the continent, the service had already been offered many years before by Silver City airways who flew Bristol Freighter aircraft day in and day out.
Carvair's were operated by many different airlines including perhaps the best known British United airways,I think there is only one extant and that is sitting outside rotting away, and so the end of an era which can only be remembered with our models.

Close, not BCAL, British United Air Ferries which became British air Ferries. Last Uk based one was scrapped Southend, Ithink in 83. Aer Lingus had a couple and so did Ansett. As far as I know, 3 survive. Two in America and one in South Africa thats alive and well earning a living with Phoebus Apollo. Coming from Southend, I have a big facination with anything to do with BAF, Carvairs, Viscounts, Heralds and Shorts Belfast (they used to fly over our house because Heavylift had/has mantenance base there.

Bit on useless info, but in the film Goldfinger where the Rolls Royce is being loaded into an aeroplane, thats a British United Air Ferries Carvair at Southend. Thought Id share in case it comes up in a pub quiz hahaha
