Howdy Bunker,

I am not sure if you meant to post that photo or not, but that is not the Fighting falcon, that is a F111 AArdvark or EF111 Raven. Note the duel exhausts and the wings are certainly "variable geometry". And since the F111 is the only variable geometery aircraft in the US arsenal with a single verticle stabilizer, thats how I came to identify it at such especially since the entire aircraft in the photo is blacked out by shadows.

Anyway, not being "picky", just wanted to make sure that you posted the photo you intended to post.

EDIT: It may be a British Tornado instead of the F111
EDIT NO.# 2 Nope, its an F111, the intakes on the Tornado are "squared off", and these arent.
have a good day,

Greg

GW I posted it specifically as an example of extreem vapour creation on wing surfaces.

I know it is an F111

Howdy Bunker,

Ok, I understand, your post with the photo was abit vague, and I didnt know if you were refference to "theories" meant the wing load of the falcon or the 9 G's which RJ spoke of.
But...............Yea!!!!!! for me, go me go! I shoulda been a spotter during the war lol.
Speaking of which, I have been giving thought to showing silhouettes of aircraft and maybe we all could do a little "spotting and Identification" here in the forum. It would just be something that everyone could participate in. And it wouldnt actually have to be limited to aircraft, armor could be used too. Ships are abit different in that you can tell a destroyer from a battleship, but, unless you did it by country, once you had done one, you would have done them all. And you wouldnt be able to name them by seeing just the silhouette.
anyway, If someone wants to start an "Identify this silhouette" thread before I get around to it....go for it, I think it could be fun.

Have a good day,

Greg

It took me a bit longer to come up with some interesting vapour trail shots of an F-16 but here they are:

As for ships, bring them on, anything has to be easier than Barry's cast models!!!

I haven't forgotten Barry but the rest will have to wait until I get home. I've bought the book after all!

Wow, I am truly impressed. Those are some great pics as well. I need to look through the other links and stuff attached, it may even be one of them.. but anyone have weapons cofiguration listings for what the F-16 can be configured for? Just wondering because with some of the kits they sell that are just weapons, I would like to verify that those configurations are accurate.

I love that second pic. Do you have any other pics with that paint scheme on an F-16?
