| Yes remember those Complete-A-Pack models,I have the Tiger Moth plan somewhere,I had no idea that Traplet were now handling them ? good news as they were good plans, very rugged models.
Your Beaver should be very impressive, especially with working flaps well worth fitting.

| Have you seen those pictures Bluewave of seaplane bases in Canada ? they use the Beaver like a pick-up truck loading anything from fish/animal carcases, timber strapped to the sides of the struts and floats, the floats have cells in them that have to be emptied now and again, fishermen get trips out to remote places and they drop them off and go back at the end of the day to retrieve them, just like a bus service !
Apparently Pratt & Whitney spares are getting expensive so a few operators have opted to have turboprops fitted and are finding the initial cost worth it in terms of easier maintenance and between time overhauls, the turboprop in front pulls the centre of gravity forward but allows more rear payload, thus a more versatile machine.
The Beaver was actually a response by De Havilland Canada to act as a replacement for the weary Norduyn Norsemans in service, oddly enough many Norsemans still operate alongside them still giving sterling service ! look one up and see the similarity.
By the way there is another plan for a free flight Beaver, someone gave me an half finished example some years ago,I beefed it up for radio and flew her for a while.
You are lucky to have flown in them,I think the Army cowls look much better anyway,I like the sound of that large model, dont forget to take a few pictures when you get a minute.
I see that Dave Platt in America is fitting large home made diesels into his scale models now,the reason once again the ability to turn big airscrews with plenty of torque.

| | All Round Modeller | Yes, I have many pics of those ones on floats in Canada, could do with one of those for round here as I have plenty of Lakes and Coastal Waters to Land on, would beat the car anyday...!!!.
I plan to fit mine with the plastic kit of the dummy Pratt & Whitney engine made by Williams Bros. I have already checked it out and the model was designed with this kit in mind to fit inside the cowl...!!! It has all the cylinder heads but the rear of the crankcase is specially cut away to allow fitting onto i/c engines so it should look good. I was at my Dad's today in the loft checking for some other model bits....I saw the Beaver Fuselage tucked away up there in the corner......but not for long, this will be out again soon. I had also forgotten how many other models I had stored away up there.
Looks like I am going to be busy this winter...!!!

| Those Williams engines sure look good Bluewave,I am surprised that nobody has invested in tooling to make up dummy cylinders and crankcases from which you can build up your own dummy motors ? all it would take would be a multi purpose crankcase from which either 5,7 or 9 cylinders could be added at will, light alloy would be ideal material.
I have some pre-war pressed alloy cylinders that fit into the cowl of your model, even these would do the job.
When you build up the Williams a tip for you, drill small holes where the pushrods go and zap in some piano wire rods, these give a lot of extra strength and stop the cylinders breaking due to vibration from the engine.

| | All Round Modeller | Thanks for the tip, I will bear that one in mind, I have plenty of Piano wire stock in the shed...so will do that accordingly.
