| Avro Avian model. This model was one of two examples built specially for a 50th anniversary Air Training corps event and celebrations,I worked to a pretty tight time schedule on these two to get them completed in time for display, both were scratch built and from plans drawn up myself, material is Jelutong or 'Jelly' as the pattern makers affetionetly call it,it has a very close grain and is easy to work, the wing ribbing was made with thin narrow strips of paper glued across the wings and looks most effective,
The awful pea green colour which was specially mixed is authentic.
The reason for this model was that the particular unit were presented with this full size aeroplane back in 1948,they disposed of it eventually by burning her and then pushing the remains into a pond, this was then covered over eventually with soil,I cringed when I heard this sad end to such a good looking aircraft, the model is now part of my own collection of models of historic aeroplanes.
