Howdy Jason,

I have to go to little rock tomorrow where the hobby shop is so i will look for them, if I find them I will get them for you and we'll work out the particulars later.
His decals usually run from about $5.50 to $9.50 (US) depending on the brand and availibilty.
I will elt you know in this post tomorrow if i find them, I will get the owners help in locating them.

Nice looking model. I've always like the Tornado.

You say you painted it by brush. That's a real good finish. I took it for granted you sprayed it.

Did you do anything special to get this level of finish?

Cheers JTF

Hi JTF,

Thanks!
My first go at brush painting with enamels was a disaster. So on this model I have used Hannants Xtracrylics - They are much thinner, water based and generally went on nicer.

Before painting, the entire model was given a coat of Halfords automotive primer from a rattle can. Then the acrylic paint, followed by a couple of coats of Johnsons Klear to help seal the decals.

The only problem with the acrylic's was that the colours didn't quite match what they should have been, but it was only a very very subtle difference.

I did use some of the enamels for dry brushing on the landing gear as the acrylics weren't particulary good for this. Also, the arcylics are quite glossy and have to be 'matted' down with a satin or matt lacquer (but I didn't do this as the primer underneath gave the same effect). I've read that you can achieve the same effect as a matt lacquer by adding some talc powder to johnsons klear, but I've never tried it.

Cheers,
Dave

Dave.

Nice 'Tonka' what paint did you use, it would be great to see a line up of all the tornado squadrons with all the anniversary markings for each squadron, along with the display schemes over the years. My favourite squadron was 17 Squadron, I worked on the squadron in germany when it flew Jaguars.
Again nice model.
