| Model show pictures-Pitcairn Autogyro and a bit of history. A better picture of the Pitcairn autogyro, built from a Williams bros kit and super detailed.
The original machine was one of a range of products from this famous company, some years later a member of the Pitcairn family banking business had the original machine restored to flying condition, what a sight this must be to see flying ? I once witnessed a Cierva C.30 Autogiro flying overhead,it was a most unusual sight in the air and made a peculier swishing noise, sadly Juan D'La Cierva was killed early in his life when a Dakota crashed on take off at Croydon airport, this curtailed autogiro development for many years because he was the very driving force behind autogyro development, some years later the name Cierva Rotortech was resurrected when the Grasshopper contra rotating design was developed at Redhill, this never came to anything despite being quite sound.
Fortunately the autogiro ( spelling is correct in both senses ) has been kept alive today by enthusiasts, the doyen of whom is Wing Commander Wallis the designer and pilot of 'Little Nellie' used in the Bond movie, his fleet of 14 autogiro designs are kept at Reymerston Hall,Norfolk where he flies them from his tiny airstrip in the grounds.
