nitro car shell size

hello Ive dug my nitro car out the garage which Ive had years, and not used it for years, its got an OS Cz engine which moves it quite fast also its 4wd, Its 1/10th and its kyosho thats all I know about it, anyway im after a new shell but there are 190mm and 200mm shells, anyone got any idea what size I should be getting for it, will try get some pics tomoz,

Hi ian, theres a couple things you can do, first of all measure the track of the model ( measure accross the front wheels, i.e from side to side)
this will give a better idea ass to whether a 190 or 200 mm body will suit you.

ideall y the best way to do it is go to your model shop with the chassis ,make sure the wheels are fitted and try out some bodyshells for size, as some different makes do have different wheelbases.

however, i think i know the chassis you have, is a few years old but came with either a puegeot 405 or ford rs200 shells on it , and if i remember rightly the 2wd version option was with a chevrolette corvette.
relatively short wheelbase. but not bad in their day. though i think the os engine ( a 0.11ci) was a bit temperamental .

Many thanks for your reply, I think the car is about 10 years old, it came with a toyota celica shell, the one which i still have and is looking a bit worse for wear, here is a couple of pics, the engine seems ok, its very fast compared to the standard one which came with it, last time i used the car must of been about 3/4 years ago, and it started up last week nearly straight away, had it running for about 10/15 mins with no probs,

How do todays model cars compare, have they changed alot,

Also i measured from wheel to wheel and its 240mm thats from the outside edge of the wheel to outside edge of the other, is that the correct way to measure it

that measurement you took ian is a rough idea , it looks like you have some wide wheels on there , but you could be looking for a 200mm shell, ideally take it to teh model shop and ask to try the shells, by far the easiest way to do it .
since you already have a shell you could measure the width of that one and that would give you an idea.

the chassis looks in good nick, the engine upgrade was obviously a needed change, as the oild engine could be a pig to get running nicely.

new cars are more efficient in design, driveline,chassis etc etc because they are used for track racing, the chassis you have was a semi off road /on road set up , i think the same or very similiar chassis was used for a 4wd buggy but i would need to double check on that.

Hi Ian,

Whilst most 190mm or 200mm width bodyshells will fit your car, the most important factor is the wheelbase length which will determine if the shell properly fits your car...ie the wheels fit in the wheel arches properly !!!

This is very simple to do:

Just measure from the centre of the wheelnut on the front wheel on one side to the centre of the wheelnut on the rear wheel on same side and that will give you the wheel base length.

Most modern cars are in the 250-260mm wheel base range (so the bodyshells are made to fit that size) although some of the older ones will be 280mm (The last 3 cars I did were all older 280mm wheel base length as in pics below) The Skyline and the Honda NSX are both Kyosho Cars, The Subaru is a Thunder Tiger.

Thanks for the replys guys, Ive measured the wheelbase and its 270mm, Ive also measured the shell and from the top of the wheel arch side to side is 250mm, so if I get a 200mm shell its not going to sit right then if thats how they are measured, Im after a shell which sits like the one I already have, arch over the wheels,

Im looking for a subaru or evo shell like this one,

Been to the model shop today, cannot find a shell to fit, he said its an odd size really, could be due to the wheels also as they are alot wider, he had a subaru shell but the wheels would of stuck out the side, he only had the 1/10 shells which all looked alot smaller than mine or 1/8th which were huge, so bit stuffed really think im going to strugle to get a shell to fit as good as the toyota one,

He had a 1/8 model there forsale, looks very nice, alot bigger and neater than mine, Im very tempted, not sure what make it was, it was £280 said he would knock £15 off or £280 if I wanted the scooby shell instead, is that a good price, here is a couple of pics of it,

anyone know much about these models,
