On the workbench-Airfix Recovery set.

Many years ago Airfix brought out some great diorama models to be used with railways or airfield layouts, they did amongst others a refuelling set and this latest revamp the recovery set of vehicles, this consists of a Queen mary lorry and a Coles crane.Considering the age of this set the mouldings are as crisp as the day they pressed the first mould at Haldane place ( where Airfix first produced their famous range as a sideline to plastic buckets ! )
Faced with the task of producing a wartime airfield layout for a show in the spring it was time to start gathering together suitable subjects for a diorama, and this one was on the shelves of the local shop to get the ball rolling.
Being in need of a suitable wrecked aircraft to place as a load,I found in the scrap box an old Spitfire which was suitably painted with patches of metal primer and looked as if it was being conveyed to an R.A.F Maintenance unit ! building such a layout is good fun and entails a bit of searching out to find suitable things that can be pressed into use on the layout.
The motorcyclists are mounted onto clear plastic sheet, this way they can be placed anywhere on the layout. So lets finish this model off and go and mix up some paint for the tyres !

I remember this set well from about 28 years ago at that time I was into aircraft kits and had a small airfield set-up in my bedroom. then i progressed? to 1/35th Tamiya WWII kits for a few years. Then I lost the building urge, finally came back into the fold with r/c boats about 5 years ago. Although my build rate has not been astonishing the enjoyment of running my models surpasses the build time which is a great stress reliever at the end of the day. I hope you all get as much enjoyment out of your respective area of the hobby as I do.

All the best

Jim

*** Hello Jim,yes there is a certain amount of nostalgia attached to some of these models,it is incredible to think that model kits we purchased for two old shillings with our pocket money some 40 years ago,are still available today albeit at a much inflated price ! with modern adhesives, paints and above all our ability to do things that much better through experience it is a real joy to make them again.
Jim I love to here stories that people are enjoying their respective hobbies wherever our interests lie, quite often I have returned home tired and after tea retired to the model room, result after a few engrossed hours building feel refreshed again,it is just immersing yourself into the model and that is what an hobby is for an escape from the humdrum of the everyday rat race.More power to you and your R/C boats.
