| Hi Peter,
Hope you have a lot of fun with your car, I personally haven't tried or seen stock car racing but it certainly sounds like a lot of fun and I am sure you will soon get to grips with it.
You will have to get some pics of the meets when you next go and post them on here for us to share.
I tried my first offroader a couple of days ago, met a guy with 3 of them all out running and he let me drive one, it was a Tmaxx with no brakes on it but a whole lot of fun...the other 2 were Traxxas and they flew !!!
Buying the 2nd hand car is a good move, so long as you know a little about the cars to set them up etc....when you really get into the racing then move onto something a bit newer....and maybe faster. Either way I am sure you will enjoy it and have a lot of fun
Regards.......Mark.

| Hi Peter,
I used to run the Marave Mini stocks years ago, they were a lot easier to control than the traditional style stock cars. Glas to see folks are still able to enjoy this pastime.
Do you run on carpet or wooden floor?

J. | We run on a carpet with foam tires. the motor is a standard 540 motor. A 6 cell 7.2v battery.
Not sure of the track length but have done 54 laps in 4 minutes( track record is 75 )Only raced 3 times so far so still have a lot to learn. |

| Aye, we started out on floor tiles and moved to carpet as quickly as we could. Those stocks can take some getting used too which is why I changed to the mini stock. Even an oldun like me could 'drive' one, you only need to learn how to go one way, great fun.

| At one of the early model aircraft clubs in the Midlands, during weekends that we could not fly due to winds etc there was a Mardave Stock car track, these old cars were built like tanks, with thick alloy base and steel tubing for the chassis, there were no servo savers back then,or special glow motors which we converted with heat sinks from aero ones, and the servo attrition rate was also high until fitting home brew spring servo savers, well remember cleaning and stripping everything after a weekends and straightening out the chassis, this all seemed to be part of the fun !
Mardave has gone through a few changes in recent years and nearly folded, the keen staff at the company took over the firm and streamlined their products, they certainly were a pioneering company who offered a good product at a decent price.
Are these Mini Stocks a very basic car with a 540 type electric power ? if so then I have one in my shed that used to race in a barn, they did seem very sensitive on the controls, for a bit of fun there was a VW van body that was modified to fit the chassis, the bodies were a bit fiddly to fit with a pillar and a pin,but it worked.
You have evoked memories of these real fun cars.

| Yep I will agree with you there Barry,
My first R/C car was also a Mardave back in 1978 and constructed in exactly the way you describe and with a Veco .19 Engine fitted. It went like stink. I had a Zakspeed Team Ford Capri bodyshell on mine as well as a couple of old Formula 1 shells. All hand painted by me then. I do still have some pics of it somewhere and will get them up online.....I had a lot of fun with that car.
I sold it in 1982 moving onto R/C Planes and have only recently returned to cars (in the last couple of years) as my nephew got into them, I ended up doing them for him and finally got me another one as you have seen elsewhere on here.
Regards.......Mark

| Mark, now there was a motor in its day,the Veco 19,they run really well but the castings were made from a really rubbish metal, the slightest bump and the crankshaft would break through the caseing !
The tubing on those early Mardaves was a square tube, there used to be some old boy at Mardaves who did all of the welding, when he left the quality went right downhill,he could probably have done it in his sleep !
Mardave went for the belt and braces approach to these cars, built tough.
