| do let us know if there is any problems happen in the areas where the c/f is not wide ie around the square cut hole area where the chassis starts to taper out to it's full width I think I will have a go with this material.

| | All Round Modeller | Seaspray,
Will do, I was a bit wary of this but the sheet used here is 2.3 mm thick, the original aluminium chassis is only 1.5 mm thick. Given the strength of Carbon fibre, I think I should be more than ok here. I have seen R/C Helicopter side frames with bigger cut outs and small areas of Carbon fibre around the cut-outs and these have never failed in normal use, only in a very severe prang. Don't forget this stuff is woven carbon fibre, so it doesn't just snap.
Also another tip which you are probably aware of is that I have radiused all the corners of the square cut holes. I did this by simply drilling a pilot hole just inside each corner prior to cutting out and then just cut to each drill hole leaving nicely rounded corners. This should stop any stress cracks from sharp corners.
Regards......Mark.

| | All Round Modeller | Just another Little Pic to keep you updated, as you can see, the chassis is now fully Re-assembled. That Bit of Carbon plate in front is being used to make the final 2 components. The bit you see etched is the top chassis plate which will replace the existing one on the car (only 4 screws to change it over) The etching was done using a very fine small diamond tipped glass engraving tool in the smallest of my 2 mini-drills, much better than a chinagraph pencil anyday....!!!
I will have sufficient Carbon plate left to replace the aluminium shock tower you can see on the chassis on the car. This is quite an easy bit to make.
Once that is done, that is it !!! Final installation and testing of all the lights and the radio gear after that (The servos are already in as you can see) and it is finally ready to rock and roll then.
Regards.....Mark.
Ps.......No prizes for guessing what plane that is on my PC Desktop !!!

| | All Round Modeller | and from my last pic Just a very short while ago to this, The etched part is now cut out and test fitted. Needs very minor smoothing but as you can see it looks good.
Regards......Mark.

| | All Round Modeller | Here Ya go, new chassis now complete, including the rear shock tower now made out of Carbon Fibre as suggested by Iain. Thanks mate...I really never thought about that part till you mentioned it.
Only the Fuel tank to be screwed on now and throttle brake linkages to hook up to the servo (The steering one is already done)
All screws / nuts have had loctite threadlock applied when re-doing them up to save them coming loose through vibration when the car is running.
Regards...........Mark.
