| Is this that eccentric farmer who builds slingshots as an hobby ? he insists on using old cars as projectiles, sometimes filling them with explosives so that when they hit the ground they make big holes in his land ! told you that he was eccentric, the sheer inertia behind these things has to be seen to be believed.

| No Barry, I'm sorry these were preliminary trials for the Harry Potter movie before the car was made to look like a Ford Anglia. |

| Did you ever see the Junk Yard Challenge where they built a Trebuchet to hurl a car?
The thing collapsed because they got the calculations sadly wrong and the elasticated catapult won.
If you ever see the crash test videos of car impacts you will get an idea of what hitting a wall at 30 mph can do.
Actually a Trebuchet is a very effective and extreemly old design that can be used to very good effect. They actually showed them in use in the recent film "Arthur" when they were used in a seige situation. The design of a Trebuchet is very interesting and you can actually download a working program that will tell you the distance an object will travel for a set of given dimensions and parameters. |
