Thumbs up

Howdy Bob,

I just wanted to thank you again for another great looking model. I was just curious as to what programs you use for your designs or whether you are doing these "old school".
I have used pepakura unfolder, metasequioa designer, anim8or 3d design program as well as blender and a few others.
Another program that I am interested in, but have yet to use (you may also find it interesting) is "Photomodeler Lite". This is a photo modelling program in which you take pictures from a specified distance of a subject, from several different angles and the program apparently combines and converts the images into a 3d model, which i am hoping could be "unfolded" via pepakura. If you get a chance, have a look here: Download PhotoModeler Lite v3.1a Freeware software - Softlookup Downloads This may be something to help you design a model that you have been "putting off" for one reason or another. below is the programs description:

PhotoModeler Lite v3.1a Description:

turns photographs into three-dimensional models. PhotoModeler Lite is based on photogrammetry; the science of extracting data from photographs. With PhotoModeler Lite, you can create 3D models from photos, complete with points, lines, surfaces, and mapped phototextures. The newly-created model can be saved in DXF, 3DS, and VRML format for use in a variety of applications such as animation, engineering, architecture and Web publishing. PhotoModeler can import TIFF, JPEG, GIF, BMP, TGA, PCX, PCT, and PSD image file formats.

Anyway, again, great looking model and thanks for the free download. Have a good day,

Greg aka GW

Hi Greg,
Thanks for your 'words'.
Basically, I use a side and a front image, then I cut out numerous bulkheads with the correct widths and heights, glue 1/2 the b/h in the correct positions onto the side view, and fold paper over each segment (ie between each b/h pair, fotocopy it which gives one half of the panel, copy, flip and attach to the side. Then I glue/close the form, see if it fits exactly (usually not!), make corrections until the fit is there.
Programs I use, usually a combination of MSPaint and Photoshop (tried also with GIMP).
I must try out the software you mention, not Pepakura where I didn't get very far.
Thanks for the tip
Bob

Bob I want to thank you for placing all your aircraft models up for free I have downloaded all of them and intend to build them when & as I can afford to buy the ink for our printer, so far I have 2 of them they being the DC3 & 4, I don't know which one to build next but when I finish my Chev Blitz I will pick it out and when finished place it here on the forum for all to see. I am getting better at building cardstoxk and enjoy doing so it's far better than plastic and more creative, thanks again for all the wonderful aircraft.

"it's far better than plastic and more creative".......

GADZOOKS MAN! are you trying to start a stampede? lol

In all seriousness though, Bobs models are great "works of art" in themselves. I would recommend them to anyone who wishes to try their hand at a cardstock model.
However, unlike Russell, I am gonna play it safe and just say "that cardmodels are a great and equally (if not more so) challenging Hobby when compared to plastic modelling. ( I dont wanna start a feud between cardmodellers and plastic modellers lol. )
The results and feeling you get when you complete a cardmodel compare with those you get upon the completion of a plastic kit.

Have a good day guys,

Greg

Greg, I think cardstock is more chalenging as a guy on another forum said and I quote "U have to get the curve right or it won't look good but as with plastic they are already there." and I agree but I also think that plastic depending on wot U build can be a challenge as well some plastic models have lots of small parts where cardstock doesn't BUT it's each to their own I think and I do luv both.
