    Messerschmitt Me 109 F

I like to share with you my design of the Messerschmitt Me 109.

    The colours are "Tunisia 1943"

The scale is 1/54 and the test build was by CardStalker.

The model can be found at http://ecardmodels.com/shop/index.ph...acturers_id=48

    I thought I'd do a quick re-colour of my Me 109.

As it is currently in a "Tunisia 1943" look it shouldn't take much to make it into a Hans-Joachim Marseille, "The Star of Africa" version.

Research has left me with two questions.

    • The victories painted on the tail. Are they on both sides or the port side only?
    • The upper camo' colour could either be a yellow sand or a brown sand. Any idea which he used? From the time scale I'd say he had the yellow sand as this was used in the earlier part of the war.

    Thanks for the help

Not sure which machine you mean by the "star of Africa" version. Of the top of my head I am aware of four tropicalised machines that he flew. The last one was "yellow 14". Can't remember the werk nummer but I've got a profile somewhere!
It would have had the 100 in a wreath and then the other victory bars beneath. Again not sure but usually this would only be on the port side of the rudder.
My money is on RLM 79 - the brown one.
I'll try to find the relevant references at home.

    Thumbs up

hi jtf ,nice card model, what a co-incidence too ,im just in the process of obtaining a model of marseilles 109 after reading about his exploits.im hoping to get a 1/72 kubelwagen too as he had his own personal one which he called "otto".Not sure about the colour ,as for the markings i would have thought the victory tally was only on one side ,the port according to photos.Maybe you could get a card kubelwagen to go with the plane(if they make card models of armour?) cheers tony

    Thanks for the input guys.

My source picture has a Wk-Nr 10137 and only has a "10" in the wreath.

"Simmers Paint Shop" has two RLM 79's. one used between 1939-1942 and the other 1942-1945. The lighter, yellowish, was used in the up to 1942 so I'll go with that.

Common opinion has the victory bars on the port side.

The Kubelwagen is a good idea, I'll have a look to see what's about.

If you want to see paper tanks have a look here. http://ecardmodels.com/shop/index.php?cPath=28_30

JTF, are you sure you've interpreted that photo correctly. I also have a profile of that aircraft and it has 70 (not 10) inside the wreath and then 31 victory markings beneath.
I only ask as I know how hard it is to read these old images!

Thanks for the link. I think your right about the 70/10.

The image I'm working from is dated June 1942 the same as the third No. 14 Me 109 shown. The difference is the cowling/air intake under the engine is not yellow but blue, the same as the rest of the underside.

I now have 5 options I could use.

    Cheers JTF
