Okay, who's the resident WWII US Army expert?

I'm not looking for colour advice but have noticed differences in uniforms.
Okay so I have some US troops but don't know what the difference is between the ranks.
Some have the fairly standard field uniform and it's obvious these guys are the rank and file troops but there are also some with a bomber style jacket and even others (in a Dragon kit) with a trenchcoat.
Are these guys higher in rank or is there another reason they are wearing a different style of jacket?

      Thanks guys.

U.S infantry units and ranger units were issued with a stone or beige coloured Parsons M1941 field jackets with wool drab shirts and trousers initially as part of their winter uniform, these were also supplimented with the long wool overcoat which was issued due to supply problems and worn mainly by truckers who cut the skirt off, this had the unfortunate consiquence of giving the same sillouette as the german soilder, the Mackinaw double breasted jacket was also issued which had a wool inset collar. Airborne units were issued with the M1942 light stone twill field jacket and matching cargo pants this was later replaced with the M1943 uniform in OD green. Although most soilders were issued with the M1943 uniform during or after 1943, some units did not receive them till 1944,45. The M1943 uniform is very similar in style to modern camouflage BDUs worn by U.S forces. I hope this is helpful, if you have any further questions please ask.
