| Spitfire display banned. Organisers of the Armistice day parade in Bedworth,Warwickshire are upset over a decision by the CAA ( Civil aviation authority ) to ban a display of two Spitfire aircraft on this important occasion.
The CAA are not happy with single engined aircraft flying over a built up area, well after 40 years plus the good old Spit has proved a very reliable machine, and it does not mean that twin or even multi engined machines are safe if one or two engines fail.
The move was prompted by European safety regulations now gradually infiltrating into the system to make us a safer nation, come on now ESA who is kidding who here ? if Spitfires were safe enough to fly shot up after battle then that is good enough, the public want to see these aircraft performing to remind them of the service that these men and machines gave to the nation,or is this political correctness gone wild ?
The fact remains that these aircraft were good enough in 1940 to fly so why not now, they are probably better and more lovingly maintained than ever in the aircrafts history, let them fly and hands off our historic aircraft.

| Your right political correctness gone wild, like the prison offers that were not allowed to wear the George cross because it might be seen as a racest, the George cross is a symbol of England the Spitfire is a symbol of Great Britian and a tribute to the many thousands that gave their lives for us. |

| Sounds as though someone is using a "get out clause", as it's not that long ago since the VE day celebrations, where we had not one but several single engined planes flying over the densely populated metropolis we call London town . Sounds as though somebody may be trying to pull the wool over someone elses eyes and laying the blame at someone elses feet. |

| i see this as political corectness gone totally mad there are plenty of single engined aircraft flying everywhere it just smacks to me of we dont want to celebrate anything that involves Britain being victorious over anyone else. Otherwise the Guardian brigade will call a meeting of their local council chambers and gladly ridicule our heritage and our achievments being in wartime or whenever! I am heartily sick of people trying to appease the world and his brother at our expense! We have a great country !A great tradition! A great community! why do these people persist in trying to denegrate everything that is ours??????? |

| Shame on them. If it were not for the Spitfire/Hurricane somebody else would be deciding policy! |

| They call this 'Trying to re-write the history books' and some people do not want to remember the past but would rather blinker things, these things happened and victory should be remembered and above all those people who gave everything for freedom never forgotton. The fact that the Spitfire is a single engined aircraft has nothing to do with safety,it is like saying that you must not fly your glider over a public park, because it could land in the park and is not safe because it has no engine !
