The cockpit god has struck me.

After building this 11 foot span Lancaster, which has been on the go now for the past five years, but who cares really about time on a project like this ? I was struggling to make a decent cockpit canopy for her,all of the instruments, navigators table complete with folded maps, seats, control columns and pair of dividers even near the 'G' equipment are all made up,the model has been made as a tribute to my father who flew Lancasters with 227 squadron R.A.F,I even made the mould for the canopy which a local school were going to vac-form one for me but that fell through, then a few weeks ago on e-bay there was something like this 'If you have a shed full of balsa wood to make a large Lancaster then I have the canopy for one' I just could not believe what I was reading,I just had to get this canopy wherever it came from,so I placed my bid and waited with baited breath as to the outcome, there was a lot of interest out there much to my surprise so either people were building or intending to build a large Lancaster, anyway I got it so the cockpit god must have been watching me and thought that this was a worthy cause ! the canopy arrived and is sitting just waiting to be fitted out and attached, what a bit of luck which just goes to show if you wait long enough then the right item will turn up.
Where did the cockpit originate from ? well I suspect it was one of a batch made for some film models,it is very well made and will sit upon some framework already made up for the interior.
The whole model was built around a single item, one of those plastic vending machine eggs, the clear part of which forms the bomb aimers window,so that governed the size of the model which was scaled up from an Airfix Lancaster kit.
Pictures of this model have appeared in the past here on Scale-models,here is a copy for those interested just before a freak flood in a barn damaged the structure,I then set about rebuilding the damage.

***Once the cockpit area has been done I will take further pictures for everyone to see,I normally work on this model outside as it is so large so it will need to wait for the spring now.
