Competition

Does anyone know where I can find the thread for the model competition? I can't see it anywhere, have I missed something?

Sorry Barry, I meant the one where you take pictures of one of your models and the prize is web space as announced by John, I think, last week sometime.

***I think that John had a very poor response to that one,no doubt he will make an announcement about it,a great pity especially as it was a very generous prize.

Poor response was an understatement so yes I pulled it and was going to post about it but forgot, sorry, there was only 2 entrants 1 didn't want the prize and the other said he wouldn't know what to do with it if he won anyway, if there is enough interest I will gladly start it again.

To be honest I think the lack of response was due to the fact that the prize was very specific. It is not something I would use, although I would enter just for the fun of it, and I suspect that web space is probably not something that a lot of us would be interested in.

I agree with Barry that it was a very substantial prize if you wanted to create a site but obviously not attractive to many. John do you have any other possible prizes that may appeal to a wider audience?

In a word, no, I do contact suppliers/manufacturers to see if any of them would like to donate prizes in return for advertising on the forum, but 99.99% of them don't even have the courtesy to reply

John,

I think a lot of people would do it for no more than the enjoyment of showing off thier models so I don't see the prize as having to be very much but I can understand your frustration.

Try running one without a prize and see how well it is supported. If not very well you have lost nothing but if it is a success maybe we can look into funding a prize somehow next time.

I was the one who entered, but didn't really want the prize in the unlikely event of me winning it!
I am not particularly competitive as the type of model that I like to build is incredibly unpopular and in the many competitions I have entered (years ago), the best I have come up with is "highly commended!" I would be quite happy to enter a competition with no prize other than the satisfaction of having won or lost! I don't mind losing because it spurs me on to better things!
