i had the chairman of the bayko collectors club contact me recently, they want to come and see how we do our models at work !- 2009 sees several model shows featuring Bayko, its a milestone year for this old building product, i thinks its 75 years of bayko in 2009...

apparently the sets are worth a bit now !

Now that's worth knowing, I've still got a bit of old Bayko in the attic, ask him how much he'll pay for it!!

My first model was the Airfix F4B Phantom,I also remember Bostick glue. The tube had a funny shaped top with a small hole that always blocked.

Mine was the Airfix 1/72 Stuka, my dad brought it for me when I was in hospital as a 7 year old. That was 37 years ago! (eeeeeeek). A little poignant really as he died a few days ago.

Hi RyedaleChris:
Very cool story and I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Being a new Father myself, it hurts very much to hear stories of Father and Sons sharing model building! Take care, Jeff

Mine was one of the Airfix historical figures of Richard I. I got it as an Xmas present. My parents bought the glue and two pots of paints a red and a gold. Why a gold an not a silver for the chainmail I do not know. I put it all together, then painted it, but it looked a bit silly as I could not paint the face and the chainmail was gold. I must have been about 10, nealy forty years ago!

LIke DaveT my first model I did as a kid was an F4, too. It was then that I decided airplane models weren't my thing and I started looking for something else.

My 1st build would have been in 1966, when aged 7.

Airfix VW Beetle, 1/32 scale, green plastic, with a nice tinge of dried bostic here, there and everywhere!! I couldn't have blamed anyone else as my fingerprints were all over it.

I think that was followed up by a Lotus Cortina, the only final difference was that the plastic was initially white!!
