perspex sheet

hi all im new here im looking for any info on building my own display cases with perspex sheet and wood base's will it work out cheaper then buying ready made one's

Martin, I'd be surprised if you didn't save significant amounts. An 1800x900mm sheet of 2mm clear acrylic sheet is just £15.99 at Wickes Building Supplies,which gives you enough to build several large cases. Perhaps Wickes also sell the solvent, which I haven't costed just yet.

thanks. it just means a bit of my time building the case's most of the models will be tanks, jeeps , aroumr many to start with just have to get back in to modeling again

also have a look in the modellers resource directory there is a company called adhesive brokers ( www.adhesivebrokers.co.uk) who stock all kind of glues and solvents...... i am sure they will source tensol or other brand of acrylic adhesive/ solvent

Dichloromethane (sold as Plastic Weld, in the U.K.,) will do the job.

plastic weld often contains MEK too, so be careful - it will bond acrylic but it can mark the finished surface too...

display cases

Hello,

I can make display cases, that wont cost the earth!

All made by hand, no milling machines used.

I use chloroform. it is the best way to join perspex.

difficult to get hold of chloroform now, you can sometimes get it via chemist, but its not commonly held now by most high street chemists.......

I make perspex pots for human anatomy specimens, in a london medical school and pathology musuem. You can't buy chloroform over the counter.
